Average Speed = Total distance travelled / Total time taken

Use this formula for taking out the average speed...

Let the distance between the school and home be x .

So , time taken while going to school will be - 30/x hrs ( by using the formula - Time = Distance / Speed ) and while coming back it will be 40/x hrs .

Now ,

Total distance = x + x

= 2x

Total time = 30/x + 40/x

= 70/x

Now ,

Average speed = 2x ÷ 70/x

= 35 km/hr

Ans.= 35 km/hr
