Ramgarh is a mountain village which has no road for motor vehicles for 15 kilometers. the primary health centre (phc) has no doctor or equipment. the villagers go to a village quack to receive treatments for their ailments. the villagers have developed a strong faith in the skills of the quack as he has cured many patients though some have died. the villagers believe that an available quack is better than an unavailable doctor. what do you think needs to be done in this situation? eassy

=========================================

This story has all the elements of a typical Hindi film potboiler: there’s high-voltage drama, spirited agitation and swift action, nicely rounded off with the triumph of people power. The only difference is that this is not make-believe spun by an imaginative writer, but a true account of fearless activism spearheaded by an empowered community. The setting is the nondescript village of Devgarh in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district, where under the leadership of Sarpanch (village head) Hariram Meena, people decided to take the matter of securing their health rights into their own hands.

Ramgarh

The situation of Ramgarh is the common scenario for many Indian villages. Most Indian villages are under-poverished in terms of Health and Treatment. The urgent need of the hour is – Health Education. Education that will uplift the masses and not educate the classes.

Considering the location and condition of Ramgarh, the quack has to be first educated with the primary issues of Health Education. Once he is made aware of the various techniques the village women have to be educated. Once the quack is properly trained he can train the village women especially on issues like child birth. Under his assistance they can deliver first-aid, injections and paramedics at the preliminary level.

The village women can be given live demonstrations through workshops arranged by the Health Department who will have to be convinced to come to the village once a month. If that does not work videos can be shown via phones. Once the women pick up they can render voluntary service and train others. In this way the conditions of the villagers can be improved.
