Take a point q on the circle

Then oq is the radius

Op is the other line from the center o

The line between q and p touching the bade of the circle is tangent

Therefore it forms a right angled triangle right angled at q because where the tangent and radius of the circle meet there it forms 90°

According to the Pythagoras theorm

As the op is hypotenuse it is longer than tangent
