Ranchi, Jharkand: There have been many stories of misery and tragedy during the
recent outbreak of the Coronavirus in the country. With over 4 lakh cases of the virus to
date in India and over a million cases worldwide, it is one of the deadliest diseases in the
recent past. Reports from across the country suggest many have run out of money and
other resources. The pandemic has taken jobs from the middle class and the working class
allke.
However, there has also been cause for celebration of the human spirit. The number of
good Samaritans who have stopped up to provide food and other resources and to arrange
for buses for those walking home in the sweltering heat is heartwarming. With the crowded
Shramlk trains taking migrantlabourers back to their villages, one has also seen volunteers
rising to the occasion to help them
A woman travelling on the Bengaluru Gorakhpur route was on her way back to her
native village when she found it difficult to provide food for her four-month-old infant. This is
when she reached out to the Railway Police once the train had halted at Hatia Railway
Station in Ranchi, Jharkand. We have often been hearing of COVID warriors these days,
whether those are doctors, medical staff, sanitation workers, police force, etc. One such
warrior, ASI Sushila Badalk, who was on duty early morning that day, heard the mother's
request and didn't think twice. She rushed home on her two-wheeler and immediately came
back with a bottle of warm milk for the mother to feed her child. This, no doubt, must have
been a matter of relief to the young mother. Such stories of human spirit winning over the
virus and people coming together truly fill our heart.
