Given :  Randy Manny and Jan put 3 As, 4 Bs and 5 C s in the box. They will take turns in getting a letter from the box.

They are trying to test the probability of getting their favourite letter.

Randy-A Manny-B Jan-C

To Find :  What is the probability of getting each boy's favourite letter?

a. Randy

b. Manny

c. Jan

Solution:

3 + 4 + 5  = 12

Probability on based of 1st turn or with replacement

Probability  of  Randy  = 3/12 = 1/4

Probability  of Manny  = 4/12 = 1/3

Probability  of Jan     = 5/12

Randy  is most unlikely to get  his favourite letter.

you are next to Jan to pick up a letter and your favorite letter is A. What is the probability of getting your favourite letters

Jan Can pick  A  with  1/4   not A with 3/4

if Jan pick A then probability of A  = 2/11

if Jan does not pick A then probability of A  = 3/11

Hence probability = (1/4) (2/11)  + (3/4)(3/11)

= 2/44  + 9/44

= 11/44

1/4  is the probability
