Case 1 :   x>0

this implies that |x-4|= x-4

So, f(x)= x-4/x-4

replacing f(x) with y because f(x) is the same thing as y.

y= x-4/x-4

y=1---------(i)

CASE 2  :   x<0

this implies |x-4| = -x+4

y= -x+4/x-4

y= -(x-4)/x-4

y= -1 -----------(ii)

So, from (i) and (ii) we know that the range  y= 1 or y= -1
