In order to explain this, let us consider the cake as (x).
so if Ranjan will take 1/5 of the cake then it means that he is taking the 5th part of the cake or
if u cut the cake in five equal parts then he will get one of it.
And if u take 1/8 of the cake then it means that u will get the 8th part of the cake or
if u cut the cake in eight equal parts then u will get one of it.
So as u see u will get smaller piece of cake than Ranjan.
ONE MORE THING
ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT IF TWO NUMBERS HAVING SAME NUMERATOR THEN THE ONE WITH LESSER DENOMINATOR IS LARGER .
