Given:

Ranjana can do a work in 5 days and Madhav can  do the same work in 8 days

To find:

Determine how much  time they will take to complete the work together.

Solution:

So,

In 1 day, Ranjana can do = \frac{1}{5} of the work

and

In 1 day, Madhav can do = \frac{1}{8} of the work

Therefore,

In 1 day, Ranjana and Madhav together will do,

= \frac{1}{5} + \frac{1}{8}

taking L.C.M. of the denominators i.e., L.C.M. of 5 & 8 = 40

= \frac {8  +  5 }{40}

= \frac{13}{40}

Thus, Ranjana & Madhav will take → \bold{\frac{40}{13} \:days}\bold{3 \: days} to complete the work together.
