In the slum regions people are mostly illiterate, that's why defecation in open is common in those people and it ultimately contaminates the drinking water through any canal passing nearby. This gives rise to water borne diseases like cholera, hepatitis etc. Lack of or unorganized health care facilities is another cause of rapid spread of the diseases as if the people's immune system is not active because of lack of immunization then he/she is more prone to any kind of diseases
