Concept

An equation is a relationship between two variables in  equal to form. It can be in two variables and in one variable also.

Given

Total cost=$138 and cost of one adult ticket with two child ticket is $26.50.

To find

  1. Cost of each type of ticket.
  2. Form equations.

Explanation

let the cost of ticket of adults be x and of children be y.

According to question :

6x+y=138---------------1

x+2y=26.50------------2

Multiply equation 2 by 6

6x+y=138---------------3

6x+12y=159------------4

subtract 3 from4 such that

6x+y-6x-12y=138-159

-11y=-21

y=21/11

y=1.91

put the value of y in equation 1 to get the value of x

6x+21/11=138

6x=138-21/11

6x=(1518-21)/11

6x=1497/11

x=1497/66

x=22.68

Hence the cost of an adult ticket is $22.68 and the cost of a child ticket is $1.91.
