rate of diffusion is inversely proportional to the square root of M ( molar mass ) and density.

r1/r2 = root of m2 /m1

r1 be the rate of the gas and r2 be the rate of methane

r1=0.4r2

0.4r2/r2= root of (m2 / 16)

4/10= root of m2 /16

m2 = 256/100

= 2.56 gm

r is directly proportional to V/t

r gas is directly proportional to 1/t

r is directly proportional to root of M

Implies root of M is directly proportional to t

weight of gas diffused = t²

= 100gm
