The rate of filtration is expressed in the from of -
4)Darcy's law
- Darcy's law is an equation that describes the flow of a fluid through a porous medium.
- The equation is V = KA ∆ P/ µ l.
- Where , V = Volume of filtrate,
K = permeability coefficient
A = Area of filter bed.
∆P = Pressure drop across filter medium &
filter cake.
l = Thickness of filter cake
µ = Viscosity of filtrate.
- According to Darcy law the factors which affect the rate of filtration are -
- 1)Surface area of filter media - The rate of filtration is directly proportional to the surface area of filter media.
- 2)Pressure difference on the liquid and below the filter medium: rate of filtration is directly proportional to it.
- 3) Viscosity - The rate of filtration is inversely proportional to it.
- 4)Thickness of cake: rate of filtration is inversely proportional to it.
