रदरफोर्ड ने कहा कि नाभिक के चारो ओर इलेक्ट्रॉन वृत्ताकार कक्षाओ में जिन्हे कक्षा कहा गया। इन कक्षाओ में इलेक्ट्रॉन बहुत तेजी से घूमते हैं। इसलिए यह परमाणु मॉडल सौरमंडल से मिलता-जुलता है,जिसमे सूर्य नाभिक होता है और ग्रह गतिमान इलेक्ट्रॉन की तरह होते हैं।
