Let the common factor of the ratio is k, so present age of A is 7k

and that of B is Xk

After 6 years, the age of B will be 42 years,i.e. Xk+6= 42..eq1

7k-4+Xk-4=56

7k+Xk-8= 56

7k+Xk= 64 ...eq2

From eq1: Xk= 42-6=36

put this value to eq2

7k+36= 64

7k= 64-36

7k= 28

k= 28/7

k= 4

Put the value of k in eq1,to find the value of X

Xk=36

X=36/4

X= 9
