Given

Rationalise the denominator of 1/8-√3

Solution

→ 1/8 - √3

→ 1/8 - √3 × 8 + √3/8 + √3

Applying identity :

- = ( a + b ) (a - b)

→ 8 + √3/(8)² - (√3)²

→ 8 + √3/64 - 3

→ 8 + √3/61

Some identities

  • (a + b)² = a² + b² + 2ab
  • (a - b)² = a² + b² - 2ab
  • a³+ b³ = (a + b)(a² - ab + b²)
