Rationalising the denominator of the given irrational no by conjugation method,

\frac{1}{4+\sqrt{5} }  =  \frac{1}{4+\sqrt{5} }  * \frac{4-\sqrt{5} }{4-\sqrt{5} }

         =  \frac{4-\sqrt{5} }{4^{2} -(\sqrt{5} ^{2}) } }                  

{using the identity (a+b)(a-b)= a^2- b^2,  in the denominator}      

 =  \frac{4-\sqrt{5} }{16 - 5}        

{ cancelling out the root and square in 5 root the whole square}

= \frac{4-\sqrt{5} }{11}.
