Given :

  • when 8 is subtracted from the second number, it will be thrice the first number.
  • if 10 is added to the second number it will be negative of thrice the first number.

To find :

  • The two numbers.

Lets understand :

Two equations in sentence form are given to us, We've to find the two numbers, We need to convert them into linear equations, To find the two numbers we need to solve the linear equations using transposing method.

According to the question,

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Let first number be x & let second number be y.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • y - 8 = 3x

  • y - 8 = 3x y + 10 = -3x

As y - 8 = 3x, y - 8 can be written as -(y + 10), We get,

y - 8 = -(y + 10)

Now, We can solve the linear equation because the variable is same on both sides,

⇝ y - 8 = -y - 10

⇝ y + y = -10 + 8

⇝ 2y = -2

⇝ y = -2/2

⇝ y = -1

⠀⠀━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━⠀

Now, Let's find the value of X,

y + 10 = -3x

Now, We can find the value of X by solving this equation since we already got the value of y,

⇝ -1 + 10 = - 3x

⇝ 9 = -3x

⇝ 3x = -9

⇝ X = -9/3

⇝ X = -3

Therefore, The two numbers are -1 and -3.
