Ravi bought a statue made of copper. He got surprised when he observed a dull green coating after a couple of months. Explain the reason. Write the chemical equation of the reaction which takes place.

Copper is a metal and just like iron even copper rusts when exposed to moisture and oxygen in the atmosphere the green substance in the new chemical formed after rusting of copper its known as copperoxide CuO .
Tip -To remove the green substance Ravi can take some lime water and clean the copper statue ,but still it would be weaker than it was before as it undergone a chemical change .
Ravi must not keep copper statue exposed to atmosphere or else there might be yet more formation of the green substance .
