Then,

x - 6 = 1/2 of x + 1/4 of x

x - 6 = 3/4 × x

x = (3/4 × x )+ 6

x = 3x/4 + 6

4x = 3x + 24

4x - 3x = 24

x = 24

No. of chocolates he gave = 24 - 6 = 18 chocolates
