Ravi scores 57% in Maths

Given :

Ravi got 70% in English and 56% in Biology and the maximum marks of both papers is 100

Maximum Marks of Maths paper is 200.

Ravi scores 60% marks in all the three subjects

To find :

The percent Ravi scores in Maths

A. 30% B. 40% C. 45% D. 25% E. 57%

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Calculate marks obtained in English and Biology

Here it is given that the maximum marks of English and Biology is 100

Now Ravi got 70% in English and 56% in Biology

∴ Marks obtained by Ravi in English

\displaystyle \sf{ = 100 \times  \frac{70}{100}   }

= 70

Now Marks obtained by Ravi in English

\displaystyle \sf{  = 100 \times  \frac{56}{100}  }

  \sf= 56

Step 2 of 3 :

Form the equation to find Ravi scores in Maths

Let Ravi scores in Maths = x

Total marks obtained in three subjects

= (70 + 56 + x)

= (x + 126)

Maximum Marks of Maths paper is 200

Total maximum marks in three subjects

= 100 + 100 + 200

= 400

Since Ravi scores 60% marks in all the three subjects

∴ Marks obtained by Ravi in three subjects

\displaystyle \sf{  = 400 \times  \frac{60}{100}  }

 \sf = 240

By the given condition

\displaystyle \sf{  x + 126 = 240}

Step 3 of 3 :

Calculate the percent Ravi scores in Maths

\displaystyle \sf{ x + 126 = 240 }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies x = 240 - 126}

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies x = 114}

∴ The percent Ravi scores in Maths

\displaystyle \sf{   =  \frac{114}{200} \times 100\% }

\displaystyle \sf{   =  \frac{114}{2} \% }

\displaystyle \sf{   = 57\% }

Hence the correct option is E. 57%
