Given data :

  • Ravi has rupees 34 in 50 paise coins and 25 paise coins.
  • The number of 25 paise coins is thrice the number of 50 paise coins.

To find : How many coins of each kind does Ravi have ?

Solution :

Here we know, that

  • Rs 1 = 100 paise

Hence,

  • Rs 34 = 3400 paise

Let, 50 paise coins be x and 25 paise coins be y.

Now, according to given,

⟹ 50x + 25y = 3400 ----{ 1 }

Here, we know, the 25 paise coins is thrice the number of 50 paise coins.

Hence,

⟹ y = 3x ----{ 2 }

Now, put value of y in eq. { 1 }

⟹ 50x + 25y = 3400

⟹ 50x + 25*(3x) = 3400

⟹ 50x + 75x = 3400

⟹ 125x = 3400

⟹ x = 3400/125

⟹ x = 27.2

Now, put value of x in eq. { 2 }

⟹ y = 3x

⟹ y = 3(27.2)

⟹ y = 81.6

Answer : Hence, Ravi have 27.2 coins of 50 paise coins and 81.6 coins of 25 paise coins.
