Explanation:

For calculating the average of any data, we use the formula of average i.e.,

∴ Average = \frac{SUM OF OBSERVATIONS}{TOTAL NO. OF OBSERVATIONS}

According to the given question, Ravi has science marks of students of class IX and X and he wants to calculate the average marks of both the classes. So, he needs to get the information about the marks of Science subject obtained by the students of class IX and X and then he would find the total number of students of both the sections to calculate the average.

Thus, the formula so formed would be :

∴ Average  = \frac{Marks obtained by the students of class IX}{Total no. of students in class IX}

and

∴ Average = \frac{Marks obtained by the students of class X}{Total no. of students in class X}
