Given:

Ravi's salary was reduced by 25%.

To find:

The percentage increase to be effected to bring the salary to the original level is?

Solution:

Let's assume "x" represents the original salary of Ravi.

Since Ravi's salary was reduced by 25%

∴ The new salary of Ravi = x - \frac{25x}{100} = \frac{75x}{100}   = 0.75x

Now, to bring the salary to the original level from the new salary of 0.75x, we must add 0.25x to the new salary, so that it becomes x i.e., the original salary.

∴ The percentage increase is,

= \frac{x - 0.75x}{0.75x} \times 100

= \frac{0.25x }{0.75x} \times 100

= \frac{1}{3} \times 100

= \bold{33.33\%}

Thus, to bring the salary to the original level, it must be increased by 33.33%.
