Ravi was ranked 7th from the top and 20th from the bottom in a certain test. If no two students got the same rank, how many students took the test ?

Solution :-

According to question, two students got same rank.

• It means may be those two students got above rank than Ravi or may be below rank than Ravi .

Ravi was ranked 7th from top .

• It means there are 6 or 7 more students got above rank so if we cancel those two students from 7 we get 5 .

Ravi was ranked 20th from bottom

• It means may be their are 19 or 20 students who got below rank than Ravi so if cancel those two students from 20 we get 18 .

So , From above

we can say that ,

Two student who got same rank + Ravi + students who got above rank than Ravi ( except those 2 rankers )+ students got below rank than Ravi (except those two students who got same rank)

2 + 1 + 5 + 18 = 26 students had attempt the paper.
