The reason why the weeds in between the cotton field were not affected by insects is because weeds like numerous wild plants have natural features that make them resistant to insects.

This happens on account of the following:

1. Production of chemicals in plants which makes them poisonous for insects.

2. Some weeds produce special chemicals that make them extremely awful in taste

3. Weeds unlike cotton plants have thicker outer walls there by making them a difficult food option.
