Ravi, who lives in the countryside, caught a train for home earlier than usual yesterday. His wife normally drives to the station to meet him. But yesterday he set out on foot from the station to meet his wife on the way. He reached home 12 minutes earlier than he would have done had he waited at the station for his wife. The car travels at a uniform speed, which is 5 times ravis speed on foot. Ravi reached home at exactly 6 oclock. At what time would he have reached home if his wife, forewarned of his plan, had met him at the station?

Given : set out on foot from the station to meet his wife on the way. He reached home 12 minutes earlier than he would have done had he waited at the station for his wife. The car travels at a uniform speed, which is 5 times ravis speed on foot. Ravi reached home at exactly 6 o clock.

To find : At what time would he have reached home if his wife, forewarned of his plan, had met him at the station

Solution:

He reached home 12 minutes earlier than he would have done had he waited at the station for his wife

Hence wife save time of 6 minutes going to station & 6 minutes to reach back at that point again

Let say speed of Ravi  =    km/min

Speed of  Car = 5S   km/min

Distance to be covered by car in 6 minutes  = 5S * 6  = 30S  km

Distance  covered by Ravi  = 30S

=>  Time taken by ravi to reach that point = 30S/S = 30 Min

if her wife had recahed station 30 minutes earlier

then they need to take 6 minutes to reach by car at same point

Hence 30 - 6 = 24 Minutes could be save

he have reached home if his wife, forewarned of his plan,

= 6:00 PM   - 24  minutes

= 5 : 36 PM
