In order to study about the formation of image when the object is placed at different position in front of the mirror , ray diagram is made .

What is a concave mirror ?

A mirror that is polished from outside so that the inner surface becomes reflecting .

Ray diagram of a concave mirror :-

There are 4 positions of ray passing through the concave mirror to reflect from it :-

• A Ray passing parallel to the principal axis
• A Ray passing through the focus .
• A Ray passing through the centre .
• A Ray which is incident to the mirror .

1. When a ray ghost parallel to the principal axis , after reflection it goes to the focus .
2. when a Ray passes through the focus , after after reflection it goes parallel to the principal axis
3. When a ray goes through the centre after reflection it retraces its path .
4. When a ray strikes a surface incident to the mirror , it reflects at the same angle .
