Explanation:

a.When CO2 is passesthrough the the lime water following reaction take place .. CaCO3+CO2+H2O=Ca(HCO)3(when excess of carbon dioxide is passed through the solution , the turbidity disappears and a clear solution is obtained due to the formation of calcium bicarbonate which is soluble inwater).

b.CaCO3+CO2+H2O=Ca(HCO)3(when excess of carbon dioxide is passed through the solution , the turbidity disappears and a clear solution is obtained due to the formation of calcium bicarbonate which is soluble in water). ... Thisreaction is used as a indicator forcarbon dioxide.

Answer:

When CO2 is passes through the the lime water following reaction take place .. CaCO3+CO2+H2O=Ca(HCO)3(when excess of carbon dioxide is passed through the solution , the turbidity disappears and a clear solution is obtained due to the formation of calciumLime water is basically an aqueous solution of Calcium Hydroxide , formula, Ca(OH)2 .

So this solution is alkaline, and Carbon Dioxide is acidic oxide. So when Carbon dioxide ( CO2 ) is passed through lime water, an Acid-Base reaction takes place producing salt and water.

The reaction is written as,

Ca(OH)2+CO2→CaCO3+H2O bicarbonate which is soluble in water)
