Which alkane is obtained by reaction of metallic sodium with 2 bromo 2 methyl propane?
I’m just guessing. Since you specifically mention metalic sodium, I will not dwell on how rare this stuff is…
I assume the Na will react with the Br and strip it off from the 2 bromo 2 methyl propane.
So you will be left with a double bond.
Perhaps you would get:
CH3−C−CH3
………….||
…………CH2
and H2 will be released also
If the result has to be an alkane, that would be butane, since you have 4 C’s. Unfortunately, we only have 9 H’s and not 10…
