Reaction of moist air with -
1) Copper
Cu + O₂ → CuO
CuO + H₂O → Cu(OH)₂
Cu(OH)₂ + CO₂ → CuCo₃
CuCo₃ is greenish coating
2) Iron
Fe + H₂O + O₂ → Fe₂O₃. x H₂O
Fe₂O₃. xH₂O is Hydrated Ferric oxide.
This is a reddish brown coating on Iron which is commonly called "Rust"
