Bromine water is brown in colour, when it is treated with ethyne then brown colour of solution decolorize due to the consumption of bromine.

ethyne and chlorine react vigorously together to produce black soot. The ethyne is produced by reacting calcium carbide with sulphuric acid and the chlorine is produced by adding bleach to the acid.
