Reaction- On heating CuSO4.5H2O crystals

CuSO4.5H2O ----> CuSO4 + 5H2O

On adding water to white powder of anhydrous copper sulphate

CuSO4 (s)  +  Water ----> CuSO4 (aq)

when blue copper sulphate crystals are heated they lose water of crystallization and blue colour of cuso4 changes to white.

CuSO4.5H2O ∆------> CuSO4 + 5H2O

  • color will change from blue to white
