Ethyl bromide ( CHBr ) can be converted into ethane ( CH ) by following steps of reaction -
(i) React ethyl bromide with aqueous KOH to form ethanol ( CHOH ) .
(ii) React ethanol with red phosphorous in the presence of hydrogen iodide ( HI ) to form ethane .
- The molar mass of ethane ( CH ) is 30.07 g/mol .
- Red P in HI is used to generate Nascent Hydrogen .
