Basically, saturated hydrocarbons give ADDITION reaction where as unsaturated hydrocarbons give SUBSTITUTION reaction.
Addition in benzene:
Example 1:
C6H6+3H2 = C6H12
Bezene reacts with hydrogen in the presence of Ni and in 200°C temperature and produces cyclohexane.
Example 2:
C6H6+3Cl2 = C6H6Cl2
Benzene reacts with chlorine in the presence of sun ray and produces benzene hexachloride or gamaxin powder
Example 3:
C6H6+3O3 = benzene triozonide
