This is the reaction that occurs when an antacid containing the active ingredient calcium carbonate (CaCO3) reacts with stomach acid (hydrochloricacid). CaCO3 + 2HCl → CaCl2 + CO2 + H2O The hydrogen carbonate anion is also a base.
