Explanation:

ANSWER:-

  • Metals like sodium and potassium react vigorously with oxygen and catch fire very  easily, if kept in the open.
  • Magnesium, zinc, aluminium, lead, etc. generally develop a thin layer of their oxides.
  • Iron does not burn on heating .
  • But iron Fillings burn vigorously when sprinkled in the flame of the burner.
  • Metals like silver and gold does not react with oxygen even at high temperature.
  • Metal oxides are generally basic in nature.
  • They react with acids to form salt and water.
  • Non metals however make non metal oxides which are acidic in Nature.
  • Carbon Dioxide and Sulphur Dioxide are some Examples.

More to Know:-

Reaction with Water:-

  • Metals like sodium and potassium react violently with cold after and the reaction is  highly exothermic due to which they catch fire.
  • Metals like calcium reacts less violently with cold water and he reaction is exothermic but  he heat evolved is not sufficient for the hydrogen to catch fire, rather calcium starts floating because the bubbles of hydrogen gas formed sticks to the surface of calcium.
  • Metals like magnesium does not react with cold water. But it reacts with hot water and starts floating because the bubbles of hydrogen gas formed sticks to the surface of magnesium.
