Explanation:

Coming from the experience of living in a large (11 kids) broke family, there are always plenty of fun things to do.

If you like games, an inexpensive game to play is Head, Body and Feet. It’s played with paper and pens and a couple friends or family. Just take regular 8x11 typing paper and cut it into three pieces across the 8 inch side. Fold the 3 pieces into 3-fold rectangles. Give each person playing a pen and one of the folded paper rectangles and ask them to draw the head of anything they want; robot, captain, dog, snake, etc., on one end of the fold. Make sure each person leaves short guide marks that extend slightly past the crease into the center fold to show the width of where the neck of their drawing left off. Then tuck the head drawing under the fold so it’s not visible and each person passes the paper to the person on their right. Then everyone draws a body (from the neck to the knees) of whatever they want in the center part of the fold, making sure to leave four guide marks into the bottom fold showing where the knees on the drawing left off. When done, turn the paper upside down and everyone passes the paper to the right once again. Then in the bottom square of the folded paper, draw the feet of whatever you want from the guide marks. When everyone is finished drawing the feet; you can begin opening the folded papers. It’s hilarious what you find when you open up the folded papers. Some of the more memorable surprise openings of the papers ended up being things like a lion-robot-chicken or an astronaut-pig-in stilettos. Some were so funny or iconic, I framed them and used them for wall art. The more people, the merrier; you can have 10 people play all at once if you want; my big family always had a table-full of laughing Head, Body and Feet artists playing.

If you are currently sheltering in place and alone, it’s a great opportunity to become an expert at something. Go to your local library and check out books (I’m assuming Internet access costs money). Become an expert at something you’ve always been interested in knowing more about. Many libraries even have videos you can check out for free. In the summer before my senior year in high school; I had a hernia repair which kept me from being active. I spent several weeks reading books and ended up scoring very high on my college entrance exams. There’s no reason not to invest in your mind while you are broke. Before you know, you will it be smarter, happy that you followed that dream and check one more item off your bucket list.

You can also write stories or keep a journal. My sister journaled for years. She had so much historical and event-based information; she is now turning our family story into books. Little bites every day add up before you realize.

This is also a good time to create, update and add a bit of flair to your resume.

If you are still really bored, there are always cleaning and those home projects that have been waiting to be done forever.

Good luck, have fun and stay positive.
