(Experience)

When the floods unleashed their fury in Assam, we knew it was going to be a difficult time for us. Flooding in certain parts of the town is an annual occurrence, but this was the first time that the Brahmaputra waters entered our home. It was scary, but the first thing we did was to get sufficient drinking water. The electricity was turned off by the municipality, so we were in complete darkness. Candles left over from Diwali came in handy. We also stocked food like packets of biscuits, bread and jam and basic medicines. Taking all the supplies, we moved to the first floor of the house and waited for the water level to recede. Two days later, the water had receded.
