Read and study the story, then answer the following questions.
THE FIRST MAN AND WOMAN
In the beginning, there was only the sky and the sea. Suddenly, there appeared a
bird. The bird’s limbs became tired after it had flown back and forth. Before it dropped
into the water below, it had seen a piece of bamboo floating with the current. When it
had swooped down, a big wave struck the bamboo, implanting one end into the mud
below. The bird had hovered over the spot for a while before it alighted on the
bamboo node. After it had rested for a little while, it heard a strange noise from inside
the bamboo. It had listened carefully to the noise before it pecked on the node. After
the bird had pecked, again and again, the node gave way. The first man and woman
appeared after the bamboo had cracked. Before they looked about their surroundings,
the first man and woman had stepped out of the bamboo node. The couple, as the
legend says, were Malakas and Maganda, the First Filipinos.
