Electric field lines have some important and interesting properties, let us study them. The number of electric field lines leaving a positive charge or entering a negative charge is proportional to the magnitude of the charge. In an uniform electric field, the field lines are straight, parallel and uniformly spaced

\large{\underline{\frak{electric\:field\:lines:-}}}

  • Electric field lines are imaginary lines in a region of space time along which a free positive charge would move if allowed to do so.

\large{\underline{\frak{Properties:-}}}

  • They originate from +ve and terminate at -ve charge.
  • They do not form closed loop.
  • They do not terminate in space.
  • The number of field lines are directly proportional to magnitude of charge.
  • They do not intersect as there will be two direction which is not possible.
