Hope, it will help you
Explanation:
On the occasion of former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's birth anniversary, October 15, all school teachers, principals and students will have to purchase a book (of any cost) and gift it to school after reading it, states a letter from the education department.
The gifted books will be kept in the school and added to its library. This day will be a no school bag day as children will come to school with only one book. However, gifting the book is not compulsory.
The state decided to celebrate the former president's birth anniversary as Vaachan Prerna Diwas or Reading Day in schools. On this day, children will come to the school with only one book — which should be non-educational.
Being asked about the initiative, BD Puri, western zone education officer, said: "It is government's decision to observe October 15 as Reading Day in schools. On this day, children will not carry their school bags. The book can be of any cost. But they have to bring one book which will be kept in the school library. This will help all students to read different books in their school every day."
Uday Nare, teacher of Hansraj Morarji Public School in Andheri, said: "There is no compulsion that students should purchase a book and later gift it to the school. They can bring any book from their home. The purpose is only to encourage them to read."
Echoing similar sentiments, Prashant Redij, principal of Hilda Castelino High School in Kandivali, said: "Not all children can afford to buy a book, but whoever can afford can gift one to the school so that many children can benefit from reading it. The children can even bring any magazine from home which they can take back instead of surrendering it to the school."
