Explanation:

Raman felt fish out of water because, his relatives asked him to give up the study of science and take compitative examination in Calcutta, in History and Economics. Then he did so, and he got with his new subjects. He got the first place in compitative examination and he was appointed as a Deputy Accountant General in 1907, at Calcutta. His relatives had felt happy to see that Raman had settled down in his life. But Raman was not happy in that post. So he felt like a fish out of water.
