The poet says that there should be more lovers of fellow beings like Abou Ben Adhem. The world is full of egoistic and egocentric beings and there should be more humane characters. The central message of the poem is love and care for all. This endears to God more than selfish prayers and show of piety.

The central idea of the poem "Abou Ben Adhem" is that God blesses and loves those who love and serve their fellowmen. If one wants to please God, one must serve one's brothers.
