Answer:
The extract has been taken from The Merchant Of Venice by William Shakespeare, Act I Scene I
Explanation:
The opening scene takes place on a street in Venice.
Antonio enters the scene with his friends, Salanio and Salarino. After Antonio confession of not knowing the reason of his sadness they give various reasons for Antonio' s sadness and try to bring him out of it.
Salarino and Salanio tells that the main reason for Antonio being sad is that his mind is tossing 'pon the ocean worrying 'bout his ships. If they had such a vast merchandise they'd be worried 'bout their ships abroad for most of the time.
Quoting Salarino :-
"But tell not me: I know Antonio
Is sad to think upon his merchandise."
Antonio says "I have much ado to know myself"
Here, ado means trouble. Antonio says that he is so absent minded that he doesn't know who he is. This sentence justifies Antonio's melancholic mood.
