Read the following and answer ANY 4 questions from 7 (i) to 7(v) :
Sir Isaac Newton is perhaps most well-known for his three laws of motion. These
three laws of motion are part of the field of physics, a type of science that people
don’t often think about in their everyday lives. But Newton’s laws are very important,
especially when it comes to the creation and safety of new vehicles. Newton’s laws of
motion deal with how objects move when some sort of force is used on them. Each
of these laws must be considered to ensure that cars are made in a manner that they
can move efficiently while on the road (the first law), can speed up properly (using
the formula in Newton’s Second Law), and are able to stop quickly and safely when
the brakes are used (the third law). Without understanding these laws of motion, it
would be very hard to create and maintain vehicles.
7(i) According to Newton’s Second law the rate of change of ____________ is
proportional to
applied unbalanced force in the direction of force.
a. Velocity
b. Momentum
c. Speed
d. Acceleration
7(ii) Two cars, A and B, have masses m and 2 m respectively. The inertia of
a. A will be more than B
b. A will be less than B
c. Both A and B will be same
d. None of the above
7(iii) If the above two cars, A and B, of masses m and 2m are in motion with
velocities
2v and v respectively, the momentum of
a. A will be more than B
b. A will be less than B
c. A will be equal to momentum of B
d. None of the above
7(iv) Action reaction forces referred to in 3rd Law of Motion
a. are equal in magnitude and act in opposite directions
b. are equal in magnitude and act in same direction
c. act on different bodies
d. Both a and c
7(v) Cars are provided with seat belts to
