Read the following and answer any four questions from 18(i) to 18(v)
Certain characteristic properties of elements i e electropositive or electronegative, metallic or
non-metallic, atomic size and valency shows periodic variation.
Metals are present in left side whereas non-metals are present on the right side of periodic
table. Electropositive nature of elements increases down the group and decreases across the
period. Electronegativity increases down the group and decreases across the period. Atomic
size increases down the group and decreases across the period. On the basis of the trends
answer the following.
(1) Which element from the following is more electropositive in nature
(a) Hydrogen
(b) Sodlum
(c) Potassium
(d) Lithium
(II) Name element from following which is a metalloid.
(a) Aluminum
(b) Silicon
(c) Phosphorus
(d) Magnesium
(111) How does the valency of elements vary in a period?
(a) Remain the same in period
(b) Increase from 1 to 4 and then decrease to zero
(c) Increase from 1 to 8
(d) Decreases in a period.
(iv) The element A, B, C, and D have atomic no. 13, 14, 15 and 16. Which element have smaller
atomic radius?
(a) Element A
(b) Element B
(c) Element C
(d) Element D
v) What happen to the Metallic character of elements when we move from top to bottom in the
same group?
(a) Decreases
(b)First Increases and then decreases
(c) Remain the same
(d) Increases
