Read the following and answer the questions from 1 to 4:In the extra nuclear portion of an atom, electrons are distributed in different energy levels also known as energy shells. With the exception of helium (He) which has two electrons in the only shell (K-shell), the elements with eight electrons in the outermost shells (complete octet) are regarded as noble gas elements. They therefore, take part in the chemical combination with atoms of similar elements which also do not have complete octet.

Explanation:

As we know that elements need 2 electrons in 1st shell (K) and 8 electrons in 2nd shell (L) and so on to complete its shell.

As per the question

The electronic configuration of element is 2, 6

=> it needs 2 electrons to fulfill 2nd shell i.e. 8 electrons.

=> Its valency is ' -2 ' {negative}

{only for more understanding} If the electronic configuration would be 2, 2

=> The element need to lose 2 electrons to fulfill its shell

=> it will donate 2 electron and form +2 valency.
