The above experiment proves that photosynthesis occurs in the green parts of the plant.
- Photosynthesis is the process in which glucose is formed from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of light. The chlorophyll is involved in trapping light energy and it is present in green parts of the plant. The glucose is stored in the form of starch.
- When a leaf is put in alcohol and heated, all the chlorophyll is released from the leaf. Now, the leaf is treated with iodine solution to check the presence of starch in it. The appearance of a blue-black colour confirms the presence of starch in the leaves. As starch is formed in leaves, this proves that photosynthesis occurs in green parts of the plant
