Read the following extract.
Sat in my comfortable, old armchair, sipping hot, sugary tea,
and warming my toes by my roaring fire, I could hear the sounds
of the ferocious storm, raging all around me like a ravenous S
lion. My little home, stuck far out on the promontory, shook like
a brittle leaf on a gnarled, old tree. The piercing wind whistled m
down the ancient chimney, rattling the plates on the dresser and
bringing an icy chill with it. My time-worn fingers trembled as I
bought the sweet, warming brew to my lips and remembered the
storm, exactly like this one, thirty years before that had brought
the stranger to my door. There had been an unexpected knock.
"Who could be out in this tempest, Maggie?" I asked myself. I quickly opened
the door and there he was. If only I had known then, what I know now.
