The Poet

The poet in the poem “Mending Wall’ has a universal outlook. He feels there is no need of any type of wall between them. Both of them have possessions that are of use to neither of them. The poet wants the wall between them should be demolished and they should live amicably like brothers.

The Neighbor

The neighbor appears to be a worldly man of worldly practicality. He believes walls are a must to maintain good neighborly relations. So he is always busy mending the wall between him and the poet. He just wants to live like a neighbor – not as a brother.
